Jamie was very personable and came to our house (over an hour’s drive, one way, from his own home) a number of times to discuss the planning phases of our new house.
We are members of Direct Buy and Jamie allowed us to buy as many materials and products for our home from them as we wanted which saved us a lot of money. We had met with 2 other builders when we were trying to decide upon a builder and both of those other builders were not going to allow us to use Direct Buy, they required us to use their vendors.
What we also liked about Jamie was that he was at the house doing the actually work himself...hammering nails, installing soffit, etc. Unlike the other builders we talked to, he was not “building” our house from his office over the phone.
In addition to his technical and building skills, Jamie was just a nice guy to work with. He was very easygoing and when difficulties popped up, he took care of them without passing the stress onto us. And as first-time home builders, we were worried about all the stress that comes with building a house. But it was such a positive experience for us, thanks to Jamie.
Our home is now finished and we miss seeing Jamie here all the time! If we ever decided to build another home (which we highly doubt because we are very happy in our current one) we would only build one if Jamie could build it for us. We wouldn’t need to go around interviewing any other builders, we would only go with Jamie.
I believe anyone using Jamie Hutchinson as a builder would be extremely happy with the home he built for them, as we are.

During the
winter Cornwall of 2002 I decided to build a home/office
for a medical practice in Cornwall. At the same time,
a vacant lot appeared for sale at 2135 Pitt Street. This
property was ideally situated for a business/home as it
was close to the bus lines, easily accessible by car or
taxi and was sufficiently large to accommodate a parking
lot for the business part of the proposed home.
The city zoning
allowed such a construction permit to be offered.
Hutchinson
Homes and Renovations were contacted to assist with the
development of the building plans and surveying I marking
of the site plan etc. Jamie and his team offered advice
and guided the final house plan, which was designed, from
scratch.
Upon completion
of the plans and subsequent approval from the city, the
construction was awarded to Hutchinson Homes and Renovations,
as Jamie was flexible.
His estimate
was not the lowest, but seemed to be more in line with
the work that we wanted to do ourselves. This included
installation of bamboo floors, ceramics on the kitchen
floor and installation of custom designed kitchen cupboards.
The price was re adjusted for these projects.
From a construction
point of view, the house is built as if it were a R2000
home. The schedule was established at the issuance of
the permit and maintained its pace within a week of plan.
One area that
was not executed efficiently was the services installation.
The responsibility fell back on the owner to coordinate
this activity despite the fact that Ontario boasts a one
number one call system.
The final inspection
of the house was completed with only a few small snags,
which were fixed within a few days.
As a construction
manager Jamie manages the site well and his team works
with alacrity. They are also very friendly and courteous.
I would recommend
Hutchinson Homes and Renovations to anyone who is considering
the building or remodelling of their home.

In 2005 Hutchinson
Homes was given the task to renovate our 1857 very basic
country farm house from outwards in, the mission was a
huge one.
The ultimate
goal was to turn this country home into a holiday house
while trying to keep to the original design as much as
possible.
Working directly
with Jamie and his team to discuss details and design
of our vision helped ease our concerns. He understood
the love of the home and demonstrated that he had a demand
for quality in his work.
The workmanship
in the renovation was exact to our standards and specifications.
The four thousand feet of wood that was installed by the

beautiful than we could have ever imagined.

Paul and I

to our sixty-year-old house in the summer of 2004, and
Jamie's team did an incredible job for us.

The house turned out exactly how we had planned it. We
have had previous experience with a construction company
for some renovations, but had major problems and deceptions.
.Jamie was able to lower our anxiety related to the experience
we had previously. Jamie is a very patient person who
can explain very simply what needs to be done.
All of his
employees and subcontractor were very professional, concienscious,
and their craftsmanship was exceptional. The whole team
was very honest with us and trustworthy. Jamie came to
us with the lowest bid and looked for subcontractors that
could do the jobs needed for us at a reasonable price.
We were impressed
with Jamie's willingness to work with my husband's disability
to try to make our house accessible. It was also noticed
that Jamie would go and see the appropriate people for
information about ramp slopes, bathroom shower modifications
etc ...We were also very impressed with the importance
of safety for his employees.
We also appreciated
that Jamie and his team did everything to finish the job
on the date we wanted, due to kids starting school. We
left home at the end of May and they all worked very hard
to have us return to the house by the end of August 2004.
If we have
any more renovations in the future, we would ask Hutchinson

was responsible for drawing the plans and supervising
the construction of 2 additions to our home -a one-storey

with loft. Both additions were completed to our satisfaction

The purpose
of this letter is to highly recommend James Hutchinson
to anyone wishing to have a custom house constructed.
We searched
far and wide for a quality builder who would construct
a custom home at a reasonable price in the rural west
Ottawa area. Someone who had Jamie act as the general
contractor on their home recommended him to us. This was
a blessing. Jamie came in at the best price of any quotes
we received because he took the time to survey his sub-trades
for best quotes. In the busy housing market of 2002 all
other builders were unwilling to do so.
Our basement
was poured in late February 2003 and we moved into our
new home on June 19, 2003. Anyone familiar with the time
to build homes at that time knows that it was a significant
accomplishment to complete a home so swiftly, when sub-trades
tended to dictate timeframes to builders. This was only
possible as a result of Jamie's efforts to both hire qualified
sub-trades and to follow up with them to assure that our
timetables were met. Throughout the process we found Jamie
to be both honest and trustworthy.
Just as important
to us is the fact that we now are living in a home that
all who visit admire. The architect who designed our home
made frequent visits during construction and was impressed
with the quality of workmanship. We are certainly very
pleased with the quality of construction and Jamie's efforts.

and I built our timber frame home in the summer of 2001.
Jamie constructed the subfloor, the interior walls,
the fireplace hearth and tub platform and did all of the
trim work. We were extremely pleased with the quality
of the work and the end results. The following
are a few of the reasons we found Jamie's company excellent

- Jamie spent
a great deal of up front time assisting us with the
planning phase.
- He was open
to establishing a working relationship that matched

following relates my experiences with James Hutchinson

James
was introduced to me by the gentleman I had contracted
to build the timberframe portion of my house, Rob Filiol.
Rob and James had worked together before and Rob felt
he was best suited to work with him on our Timberframe.
Well,
he was right. James and Rob designed the house with us
over the winter. James combination of drafting skills
and knowledge of building code allowed us to create our
home and submit drawings for permit approval.
James
undertook to supervise the construction of our home, in
hindsight I should have let him General Contract for me.
The quality of James work was by far the best of the crews
we had working on our house. More importantly was the
integrity and honesty that James brought to the job. I
found I could rely on James for the truth, good or bad,
and determine a best course of action in dealing with
some of the more difficult problems that arose. I increasing
relied on his counsel as the house progressed and have
never regretted any of the decisions we made.
